María del Carmen Sánchez Miranda, Antonia Parras Fernández, José Luis Anta Félez: The guide to the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs of Jaén: a project for the social understanding of the identity and history of Gienne

The poster gathers the experience of the project called “The society of Ghana through the gaze of the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs of Jaén. A didactic tour for the social understanding of history ”, funded by the Institute of Giennenses Studies of the Provincial Council of Jaén, in its 2019 call for research projects.
The objective is to show how from the use of a tool such as the elaboration of a didactic guide of the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs of Jaén and, through the study of the artistic works exhibited in this museum complex, we are allowed to take a tour that leads us to access the treasure of knowledge that the generations that precede us have bequeathed us as an inheritance, giving social meaning to the present.
The project systematized in this proposal reveals the analysis of collective memories, the recovery of stories or life stories, traditions, customs and rites perpetuated thanks to social transmission, as well as the recognition and location of the reminiscences of the everyday uses.
We start from the importance and the effort to keep the memory alive and the interest in making visible the public and private spaces where the arts and popular customs become indispensable for the configuration of the cultural idiosyncrasy and the identity of a territory: understanding preservation memory and knowledge of history as a necessary link to understand ourselves in the social context where we are.
Therefore, our proposal for a didactic guide reflects a journey that leads us to a search for roots, traditions and lifestyles that contribute to a greater knowledge and understanding of the identity and history of Jaén through art in the different facets collected in said museum.
