Guerrilla urbanism: "A Vila do Mañá"

How could the city be that place of meeting and exchange again? ... How can we feel safe again between houses, in the city, in the neighborhood? ... How can we make the city our place again, our place? ... how can we make our city belong to everyone? ... these are the questions that led me to create the Project: “A Vila do Mañá”.

.

"A Vila do Mañá" is an educational and outreach project, the objective of which is that from childhood / adolescence and through play, people become aware of all the scales of the common: tangible and intangible heritage, architecture, urbanism and landscape. At the same time, from the architectural discipline, a new vision of the city is obtained, which is the one provided by those who will be the inhabitants of tomorrow.

When “A Vila do Mañá” was born, one could hardly imagine a tomorrow as disconcerting as the one we are having to live today. COVID-19 broke into our lives, leaving us with an unpredictable and uncertain future. This concern is also reflected in our spaces, in the places we live, where we work, where we interact ...

Architecture has an inalienable responsibility in the face of a society that is redefining itself. In addition to the evidence of the need to rethink our homes and our ways of working, there is the demand for a quality public space in which temporary restrictions for health reasons do not impede socialization and the enjoyment of shared spaces.

.

“A Vila do Mañá” takes the girls and boys out to the streets to explore and build these spaces through play, turned into homo ludens who, with a limited series of elements, will freely organize their environment, their particular New Babylon , Constant Nieuwenhuys utopia in which nomadic society constantly adapts its own environment. Their experience does not remain in a week of partying in the city, but allows them to reconquer the space as their own and generate synergies that spill over to the rest of society.
